Bassingfield Riding School, conveniently situated close to Nottingham, is a family run business with over 60 years of experience. It was established in 1954 by Shirley Thomas (née Owen) who continues to play a significant role in the business today.
Shirley's interest in horses started from a young age. Shirley and her sister Margaret (well known in the showing circuit as 'the Owen sisters') used to compete on top show horses winning all the major shows in the Midlands. Shirley rode a number of well known show ponies, hacks and hunters including Autumn Tints, whose progeny have won numerous major titles throughout the country.
The riding school has a wide range of well schooled horses. Riding lessons are available for beginners up to advanced riders. See Riding-Lessons for more details.
NVQ training and training for stable management and equitation examinations is available. ABRS examinations for riding school customers and liveries can be taken at Bassingfield over the summer. These tests are not open to external candidates and some form of training or lessons will need to be completed at Bassingfield before the examinations are taken.
